Why Jaramillo Landscape?

The most common reason trees and plants fail isn't neglect — it's the wrong plant in the wrong place. Idaho's alkaline soils, hot summers, cold winters, and clay-heavy Treasure Valley ground require plants that can handle these specific conditions. We recommend species we know will succeed here, not what looks good in a catalog.

Proper planting depth and soil amendment are critical for establishment. We dig holes wide enough to encourage horizontal root growth, amend soil when needed, and plant at exactly the right depth — not too deep, not too shallow.

We're honest about plant expectations: some species establish quickly, others take 2–3 seasons to look their best. We'll tell you what to expect before we plant, so there are no surprises.

Our Process

The right plant, in the right place, planted the right way — every time.

1

Consultation & Site Assessment

We assess your soil, sun exposure, irrigation coverage, and aesthetic goals to recommend plants that will thrive in your specific conditions.

2

Plant Selection

We source from quality local nurseries and select healthy, well-rooted specimens — not rootbound plants that will struggle after planting.

3

Delivery to Site

Plants and trees are transported carefully to prevent root or branch damage. Larger trees may require special equipment.

4

Hole Preparation & Soil Amendment

Holes are dug to the right dimensions. We amend heavy clay soils with compost or gypsum when needed for better root establishment.

5

Planting, Staking & Mulching

Each plant is set at the correct depth, backfilled, firmed, and staked if it's a tree. A mulch ring is installed to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

6

Initial Watering & Care Instructions

We do a deep initial watering and provide you with a watering schedule for the establishment period so your investment gets off to the best start.

Typical Timeframe

1–3 Days

Small shrub and plant installs are often done in a day. Larger tree plantings or full landscape installs may take 2–3 days. Timeline depends on plant count and size.

Cost Factors

  • Number and size of plants
  • Plant species & nursery cost
  • Soil amendment needs
  • Tree staking & support materials
  • Access for delivery equipment

Frequently Asked Questions

Treasure Valley's Zone 6b/7a climate, alkaline soil, and hot summers favor species like Autumn Blaze Maple, Sensation Boxelder, Clump Birch, October Glory, Newport Plum, Thundercloud Plum, and various ornamental cherries. For evergreens: Austrian Pine, Colorado Blue Spruce, and Serbian Spruce perform well. We'll recommend specific species based on your yard's sun exposure and soil.

Spring (April–May) and fall (September–October) are the best planting windows in Treasure Valley. These mild-temperature seasons let roots establish before the stress of summer heat or winter cold. We can plant container-grown stock any time the ground isn't frozen, but spring and fall give the best establishment rates.

The general rule is one year of establishment per inch of trunk diameter. A 2-inch caliper tree takes about 2 years to fully establish. During that period, consistent watering is critical. Shrubs typically establish faster — 1–2 seasons for most species. We'll give you a realistic timeline for each plant we install.

Yes — we locate existing irrigation lines before digging any holes. For new plantings, we recommend adding drip emitters or bubbler heads to water each plant directly at the root zone, which is more efficient than overhead spray coverage. We can bundle planting with a drip system upgrade if you'd like both done at once.
